The website however has changed. It has been redesigned to make it easier to navigate and is more interactive. Check out these new features at
www.vfwnationalhome.org ....a Campus Life Blog,V F W NATIONAL HOME National Home e-cards, Searchable Directories, the ability to create an account and connection with Facebeek at www.facebook.com/vfwnationalhome
The drawdown of troops in Iraq means that many will be returning to their families with unexpected challenges and frustrations. If you encounter someone in need of help offer them the National Home Helpline number 800-313-4200. They are ready to help and provide information and encouragement.
Think of it this way....This year if you had been in a class of 17 students, one of you would have won the $1,000 scholarship.•
If you have been a member of the LAVFW for at least one year prior to time of application, you, your spouse, your sons and your daughters are all eligible to apply, providing the applicant is furthering her/his education by persuing a college degree or a career direction at technical school.
Many will pay to enter the lottery or a raffle where the odds of winning are thousands or millions to one. This costs nothing to enter except the short time it takes to complete the application found on page P-11 in the Department Program Book or download at www.lavfwnc.org
Last year (2009-10) our Department contributed $9,322.03. Wouldn't
it be wonderful if we could pass $10,000 this year?
At the C of A Promotion of Programs I will have an alphabet list of ideas sent to me by National Director Bernadette Botbyl. Stop by and pick up a copy then see how many of the suggestions you can put into action in support of Operation Uplink, Unmet Needs and the Military Assistance Program (MAP) which all shelter under the National Military Services umbrella.

|

The coming months will provide lots of opportunities to distribute Buddy Poppies and/or use them for decorations:
October 11/12 Columbus Day,
October 27 Navy Day
November 2 Election Day,
November 11 Veterans Day
December 7 Pearl Harbor Day,
December 25 Christmas
This is a good time to check your inventory to make sure you have enough Buddy Poppies on hand for all the projects you will want to complete. If not order using the form on page P-5 of the Department program book. All other supplies may be ordered from the Emblem & Supply catalog.
National has advised that the 75th Anniversary Diamond Poppies and the 50th Anniversary Gold poppies are currently out of stock. They should be available again approximately January 2011.
We hope to see you at C of A where our Buddy Poppy King & Queen will deliver their essays and will be honored at a reception. Watch next month's mail for the names of the winners.
