                                                    FEBRUARY 2011

Happy New Year everyone.  I feel sure that as we are "UNITED BY LOVE FOR OUR VETERANS and COUNTRY”, we will still be able to do a lot of good for our Veterans in Hospitals, VA Hospitals and Nursing Homes before this year comes to an end.

Remember Valentine's Day is coming up and the week of February 13 - 19 will be "Salute to Hospitalized Veterans" week.

I hope that all Auxiliaries will be planning some activity or maybe a donation to your local Veterans in the medical facilities.

They will all be very pleased that they have been remembered with parties, games, cards and any other way that you may choose.  They love it all.

The 2011 Golden Age Games will be in Honolulu, HI from May 25 - June 1, 2011.  It is estimated that the cost will be about $1500 -$2000 per person for transportation, food and lodging for the seven (7) day trip.  Sponsorships by way of donations are needed.  If you’re Auxiliary

would like to donate, please contact your respective VAMC Voluntary Services for details.

The National Executive Committee is looking for any recommendations to improve the operation of the VAVS.  If anyone has any suggestions, please send them to me and I will forward them to our National Chairman.

It seems that I keep repeating myself sometimes but ladies we do need to keep working on increasing our number of Regularly Scheduled Volunteers and their hours.  Don't forget about the Youth in your community. They may be glad to volunteer if they are given the information

and opportunity.  They too can earn pins for their hours and the interaction between the Veterans and our Youth can be very good for both.

I would also encourage all Hospital Chairmen, especially for the District that you make sure to share all the information that you have available with the members at your District meetings.  Auxiliary Presidents should also share any information she has with her Hospital Chairman.

Please keep up the good work and remember to send in those reports.  They have not been coming in all that good for the past month.  Let me know if I can help in any way and hope to see all of you at the C of A in February.  "OUR STRENGTH LIES IN UNITY" so let's all

work together for the good of our Hospitalized Veterans.

Loyally,  Charlotte Bays,  Hospital/VAVS Chairman
