DURHAM VA MEDICAL CENTER NEWS
OCTOBER 2010
By the time this newsletter goes to press, several things will be underway
or have already happened. The Country Store was held September 15 with
pretty good participation. All proceeds from this event will go to the
new Pallatative Care Units to be set up in the new wing of the CLC. These
units will provide comfort areas for families of critically ill patients.
This is something that is desperately needed for our VA as there is currently
no areas provided for families to be with critical or terminally ill patients.
The Annual Fall Festival will be held September 30, 2010. This event will be
held in the CLC dining room at 7:00 pm and all Auxiliaries & Posts are
encouraged to participate. If you can do so, please contact Recreation Therapy
at 286-0411 ext. 7708 or ext. 7719.
The Community Concert for the patients will be held Sat. November 6, 2010
beginning at 1:00 pm. This concert is provided by the Durham Community Concert
Band in the Cafeteria area on the ground floor. Volunteers are usually needed
to help escort the patients to this area. You may volunteer by calling 286-0411
ext. 7810.
Wish lists for needed items and also a list of Volunteer positions available can
be provided for the asking. All of this information will also be avaialble on
the display table at the C of A. If you would like one of these lists sent to
your Auxiliary, please call me or Voluntary Services
Recreation Therapy is asking for donations to take some of the patients to the
State Fair. These donations would be used for food, etc at the fair. If your
organization woul like to donate, please send checks to Voluntary Services and
designate the donation for this event. Mailing address is Durham VAMC at 508
Fulton St, Durham NC 27705, Attn: Voluntary Services.
Don't forget the Hospitalized Veterans when making plans for the Holidays. By
continuing to be "United by Love for Our Veterans and Country" we can help put
a smile on the faces of many of our Veterans. I appreciate everything you do
for the Veterans and I can assure you they appreciate it so keep up the good
work and don't forget to report all that you do.
