As we stand "United By Love for our Veterans and Country", we must strive in
every way possible to see that we make a difference in the life of our Hospitalized
Veterans. We all know that the key to this challenge is the VOLUNTEERS. As well
as the satisfaction of helping our Veterans, there are awards for Volunters.
1. Charm to each member who recruits one or more volunteers
between 1 July 2010 and 31 May 2011.
2. Beginning at 150 hours, a pin or bar to Auxiliary members
for hours earned. These pins can be earned from both the
VA hospital and from National.
3. A pin to each sponsored Non-member volunteer including
Youth who serve at least 100 hours under Auxiliary sponsorship.
The reports have been coming in from several Auxiliaries all over the state.
Some of these reports are on the wrong form so please remember to use the Monthly
Report Form provided in the Department Yearbook. You may make as many copies of
this form as needed and you may also add extra sheets if needed. DO NOT include
Community Service on these forms. That program has a different form and reporting
procedure. There is also some confusion as to where Hospice is reported. This
service by the Auxiliaries should be reported on the hospital form. You may also
email reports to me if they are short and signed. If they are lengthy, please send
me a paper report. I only have a small printer at this time that is old and uses
expensive cartridges. Emails can also get lost, so to be sure I get all reports
I would prefer you mail them to me.
November 1, 2010 is the deadline for the James H Parke Memorial Scholarship
application to reach the President of the Scholarship Fund of the National Advisory
Council. November is also the month designated for the Annual Joint Review between
the VAVS Representative and the Chief Of Voluntary Services. All reviews should be
forwarded to Sandra Flynn, National Hospital/VAVS Chairman by January 15, 2011.
The Holidays are coming up so check with your Representatives or Voluntary
Services to see what your Auxiliary might be able to do to make the Holidays a
little brighter. Each hospital should also have a WISH LIST that can be distributed
upon request. Some will also be available on the display table at C of A.
Ladies, thank you for all you do and keep reporting and volunteering. Our strength
does lie in UNITY and this will help us to reach our goals that will benefit our Veterans.
