As we begin our new year lets not forget to renew our efforts to instill Patriotism to everyone around us.

Ladies remember every thing you have done since April.  You can report this for the 2010/2011 year. Use the year end report to guide you on some of your programs. These are the things that your Auxiliary will be judged on.

This is an election year so you can start promoting your “GET OUT AND VOTE” program. This is found on page 43 of National program book. When you decide what program you are having at your Post please try and get it in the media {newspaper, TV, radio etc.} so the public knows about us.

OUR STRENGH LIES IN UNITY and we will always be UNITED by LOVE for OUR VETERANS and COUNTRY as each one of us shows our Patriotism by informing the public and helping one another.

Here are a few things that you can report on: # of flags you fly {American, POW/MIA} Flag stamps; Purple Heart stamps; volunteering with Military families; volunteering with a Veteran; waving a flag at events; wearing your flag; wearing POW/MIA bracelet and pins. How many at your meeting or how many times you stand at attention and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

Please send your reports in. You do the work so you should get the credit. Start planning your POW/MIA Ceremony.

Here are some dates to remember:

August 4th US Coast Guard established [1790]

7th Purple Heart Medal Established [1782]

September 6 Labor Day [fly your Flag]

11th Patriot Day [fly the Flag at half stall until sunset]

                14th Star Spangled Banner's Birthday [1814]

17th Ladies Auxiliary VFW Organized [1914]

17th POW/MIA Recognition Day [don’t forget to fly your flag and have a ceremony]

                 17th U.S. Constitution Approved [1787]

18th US Air Force Established [1947]

                  29th VFW Established [1899]

Patriotic Instructor: Federal Law requires that the POW/MIA flag to be flown on the following days;

Armed Forces Day [May 16th] , Memorial Day [May 25th] , Flag Day [June 14th] , Independence Day [July 4th] , POW/MIA Day [ 3rd Friday of Sept.] , and on Veterans Day [Nov. 11th] .

Have a great Patriotic summer.

Loyally yours,

Rosa Smallwood
